Dr. Douglas C. Jungman is one of less than 2% of restorative dentists certified by the Florida Board of Dental Examiners for IV sedation dentistry required for a sedation. Requirements for sedation permit are:
Our goal at Drs. Zamikoff, Klement & Jungman is to help make your experience here as pleasant as possible. If dentistry has been difficult for you in the past, we have good news for you. You are not alone. Many people avoid the dentist for various reasons some of which include the following:
Nitrous Oxide Sedation Nitrous oxide and oxygen is a very safe and convenient sedative technique for mild to moderate anxiety. Nitrous oxide (also referred to a "laughing gas") is colorless odorless gas mixed with oxygen through a small mask that fits over your nose. The effects of nitrous oxide are felt in a matter of minutes. In addition to feeling more relaxed, our patients have a significant analgesic effect much like a moderate pain reliever. Even though our patients are awake, this combination of mild sedation and pain relief can make a dental visit much more pleasant. Once the dental procedure is complete, you can go back to driving a car or any normal activity. Oral Sedation For patients with more moderate to severe anxiety oral sedation with Triazalom, a small blue pill, may be for you. We have been utilizing Triazalom in our office for nearly 20 years. With oral sedation, our patients are extremely relaxed and most patients have no memory of the appointment. The amnesis effect can be very positive particularly with long dental procedures. For this reason, you do need to have someone drive you home after oral sedation. Oral sedation is very safe, requires no needles and is cost effective. Our patients are monitored with blood pressure, heart rate and pulse oximeter during the procedure. IV Sedation IV sedation with Midazolam (Versed) is also very effective for moderate to severe anxiety and has the following benefits:
With IV sedation, we use state of the art monitoring equipment that includes blood pressure, pulse rate, pulse oximetry and capnography. Our dental practice is one of the less than 2% of restorative dental office that have met the qualifications for a Sedation Permit in Florida. As with oral sedation patients need to have someone drive them home after the procedure. Outpatient Surgery Center Sedation or general anesthesia with an anesthesiologist at an outpatient surgical center is an option for the following patients:
We are on staff with Manatee Surgical Center and are equipped to provide dental services in this facility for our patients that require this level of sedation or general anesthesia. Why Consider Sedation Dentistry?
If you exhibit any of the following characteristics, "Sedation Dentistry" may help you:
A dentist can complete more dental work of higher quality in a shorter period of time when a patient is relaxed. For patients that have extensive dental treatment needs, with sedation, a large amount of work can be completed. This often minimizes the number of visits needed because more dentistry can be completed. We will evaluate each situation and recommend the best path for our patients. |
